During Covid-times we are more keenly aware than ever that being among others is not the same as being with others. We are alone more than before, and out of touch even as we are in constant contact over Zoom. During the holidays this means that a table set with food doesn’t equal a holiday meal. The playing out of our normal routines offers cold comfort when we are disconnected. As we head into our most cherished family holiday season, many of us are wondering if we’ll feel, from 6 feet away, even more at a loss. In this series of images we investigate this question from the perspective of a woman awaiting, remembering, and grieving. Dressed for a special occasion, and surrounded by what could be a holiday meal at the dinner table, everything is upside-down, wrong. In this corrupted version of the holiday setting, we grapple with the question of what we are left with when we have only fragments of what makes our lives normal and sane.
